What is an ADS file?

An ADS file contains a package specification written in Ada programming language to abstract code away from developers and make code fragments reusable. An ADS file is similar to a H (Header) file in a C++ project. It contains a definition/declaration of variables, functions, classes, or interfaces in a project. The file is saved alongside an ADB (Ada Body) file which has the same base name as its corresponding ADS file but contains the implementations (body) of objects declared in ADS files. Another type of ADS file is an application written in the Visual LISP programming language used by AutoCAD.

How can I open an ADS file?

You need a suitable software like GNAT Studio to open an ADS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
