What is an ATX file?

ATX files mostly belong to WinZip by Corel Corporation. ATX is a type of GIS file which is generated by the ArcGIS mapping and spatial analysis application. ATX file stores mathematical information for the shapefile format SHP or related DBF file.

How do you open ATX files?

You need a suitable software like WinZip to open an ATX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. ATX file format:

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. You will often come across the ATX file type. This includes many different file formats. But the following two file formats are common:

• 15% of all ATX files start with the magic bytes AAPL , which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 4 KB and 150 KB in size. The file type was created recently. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. AAPL, FILL, HEAD, UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, 420Zluma, 420f420f, bvx2 and LZFS.
• 10% of all ATX files use ZIP compression, the ATX file contains a number of compressed files. The number of files included is on average 19 and ranges from 6 to 40. File names are e.g. $TAXFORM.vtd, 1.vtd, ACTIVITY.vtd, AUTH.vtd, EF1.vtd, HIDDENWB.vtd and misc.xml. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. The file size is in the range of 17 KB to 3 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as $TAXFORM.vtd. Examples of file names are 2020-06-01.atx. These files are attributed to return, companyllc, merrimack and canoe, and have often person-related content.

The remaining 75% of all ATX files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, ANTEX Antenna Exchange Format and Auto. These files are often connected to byname, tables, types, item, items or name.
