Opening a BAN File

The BAN file type is primarily associated with Specialized Apps.

What is a BAN file?

BAN files mostly belong to Specialized Apps. The BAN file extension is not tied to one single format. Instead, it is used by different applications to store various kinds of data.
For example, some BAN files hold animation data for simulation programs. This includes files used in train or racing simulators that store 3D motion or skeletal animations. In other cases, BAN files contain team data for sports games, such as those used by Dream League Soccer and Pro Evolution Soccer, where a Java‐based format may be used.
Other BAN files are tied to graphic design and publishing. Certain files are saved as banner files for programs like Publisher Banner Maker or The Print Shop Deluxe, and they may use a compound file format. Additionally, there are cases where BAN files capture technical design data like rail profile geometry or store design information (for instance, MicroDraw BAN files for furniture design, often structured in XML).
Use cases include:
  • Simulation Animation: Files used in train simulators and racing games (see Train Simulator Forums for discussion).
  • Sports Data: Java-based team data files in soccer games (related info available at Dream League Soccer Kits).
  • Banner Graphics: Files used in publishing for banners, such as with The Print Shop Deluxe (Broderbund as a reference) and Publisher Banner Maker.
  • Technical/Design Data: Files storing rail profile information or design data managed by dedicated editors like the MicroDraw BAN Editor.
  • Each BAN file must be handled with its corresponding specialized software. Some are binary and proprietary while others rely on more open formats like XML. It is best to identify the origin of your BAN file to choose the correct tool for opening or editing it.
FilExt.com note: Only a few users realize that the same file extension can encompass such different file types based solely on its originating application.

How do you open BAN files?

You need a suitable software like Specialized Apps to open a BAN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BAN file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BAN file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

    BAN format details:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the BAN files:

An BAN file includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

All the rest of the BAN files (50%) have different formats, such as DOC, JMXVBAN, ProgramName, FmArchiveVer and SRANIM. They are often associated with emot, attack, walk, banner, dance, indianajones, animation, skill, steer or ruby. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your BAN file!
