All about BCH Files
The BCH file type is primarily associated with Game engine.
What is a BCH file?
BCH files are specialized data containers that appear in various contexts. They are not a single standard but a collection of proprietary formats.
- Game data: The largest share of BCH files is used by games. These files may store save data or configuration details such as battle information (e.g. Pokémon Battle Chip data) and racing setup parameters (GTR2 car setup files).
- Test data: some are used for testing and quality control. These files can use the Microsoft Compound file format and are associated with companies like Bluehill Universal. For more info, see Instron.
- Encrypted backup segments: some serve as encrypted archives produced by BackupChain systems. Their structure secures sensitive data. More details are available at BackupChain.
- Configuration/schematic files: A few BCH files hold CNC machine configuration data, electronic design schematics (Bacschem), or other technical parameters.
FilExt.com note: If you encounter a BCH file, its origin defines the tool you need: the game client for game data, dedicated testing software for measurement files, or specialized backup utilities for encrypted segments. A hex editor can help reveal its contents if no specific application is available.
How to open a BCH file
You need a suitable software like Game engine to open a BCH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BCH file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BCH file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert BCH files:
- Game engine
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. BCH files are often referred to as Game engine games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Datalex Entry Point 90 Data File by Phoenix Software
- dBASE Application Generator Batch Process Object
BCH file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our analysis of the BCH files produces the following result:
The file type with the extension 'BCH' includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in BCH files:
- 30% of all BCH files start with the magic bytes BCH, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 8 KB to 530 KB in size, with a median of 72 KB. The file type is relatively new. These files are often associated with body, normal, shader, model, kdra and link.
- 20% of all BCH files utilize the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also called Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). There is also a CLSID, a globally-unique identifier of a COM (Component Object Model) object: 04844910-96a5-11cf-b094-08001702a358. The file contains several sections which are named like Contents, Embedding 1, Embedding 2, Embedding 3, Embedding 4, Embedding 5, Embedding 12, Embedding 6, Embedding 7, Embedding 8, Embedding 10, Embedding 15, Embedding 16, Embedding 37, Embedding 11, Embedding 13, Embedding 14, Embedding 17, Embedding 18, Embedding 20 and Embedding 21. The file size is in the range of 34 KB to 1 MB. These files are attributed to section and gypsum.
All other BCH files (50%) have no consistent format, often e.g. BACSCHEM and gMb. The category is folder, bulbasaur, projekti, sqrx, barrons, casasud, batch, grupi, demo, plus or tick. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your BCH file!
Technical Data for BCH File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\IBM\Personal Communications\pcsbat.exe %1 /r
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\CSPro 3.1\CSPRO.EXE
a bch data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with BCH files
- Associate the BCH file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest BCH file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Game engine update.
- To make sure that your BCH file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BCH file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
