All about BIP Files
The BIP file type is primarily associated with ArcView.
What is a BIP file?
How to open BIP files
You need a suitable software like ArcView to open a BIP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BIP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BIP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert BIP files:
- ArcView by ESRI
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. BIP files are often referred to as ArcView raster images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Blue Ink (project) by Automated ArchitectureBlue Ink is a Windows-based Rapid Application Development Tool for software that gathers and transforms information through predefined templates. The encrypted XML file used to store a Blue Ink project has BIP file extension. This file format is classified as Data.
- Keyshot (3D geometry data) by LuxionKeyShot is a fast and easy-to-use 3D rendering and animation software available to Windows and Mac users. The BIP file created by Keyshot comprises the geometry in a KeyShot 3D scene along with any saved camera information and materials assigned to your model. This file format is classified as CAD.
BIP file extension format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the BIP files looks like this:
BIP is a very common file type and predominantly uses a uniform format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 65% of all BIP files are KeyShot 3D scene files, which are based on the Source file format. A source code is the set of instructions written by a programmer using a computer programming language like JavaScript, C++ or Basic. This code is translated into machine language by a compiler. The translated result is called app, program or executable. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 1 MB and 170 MB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: ---luxion, KeyShot Scene, Created, KeyShot Scene File - KeyShot, icon and 64 bit. Such files sometimes refer to render, keyshot, animation, model, uploads, rendering, black, scene, table and truck.
- 15% of all BIP files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "DTag" at the beginning. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 1 MB to 16 MB in size, with a median of 4 MB. The keywords DTag, DLJt, Captured and 8BIM are typical for these files. These files are attributed to bckgrnd, frgrnd, group, strepavidine, biotine, samples, primer and beads.
All other BIP files (20%) have no consistent format. These files sometimes refer to back, ntsc, image, rifle, gold or man. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your BIP file!
Technical Data for BIP File Extension
a bip band-inteleaved image is a special file format by ESRI and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with BIP files
- Associate the BIP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open band-inteleaved images. Because only the current version supports the latest BIP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the ESRI manufacturer website after an available ArcView update.
- To make sure that your BIP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BIP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
