What is a BSL file

BSL files mostly belong to Bethesda Softworks Archive. BSL files serve different purposes depending on their origin. They are not a single universal format but rather a container used in several specialized areas.

• Skyrim mod archive: This type packages game modifications for Bethesda titles. It stores game assets like textures, scripts, and models that work with Bethesda mod managers.

How to open BSL files

You need a suitable software like Bethesda Softworks Archive to open a BSL file. • 35% of all BSL files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "BS" at the beginning. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The file size is in the range of 600 bytes to 100 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: Data, meshes, textures and scripts. • 7% of all BSL files start with the bytes ASxbsl crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. BSL files can be up to 9 MB in size, but are often around 3 MB - 9 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: ASxbsl. Files like these have the following tags: lkmsg.
