How can I open a CPX file?
You need a suitable software like UPX to open a CPX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CPX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CPX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CPX file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the CPX files comes to the following conclusion:
CPX is rarely used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in CPX files are:
- 30% of all CPX files belong to FreeDOS Code Page Information. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 4 KB to 7 KB in size. The files contain the following words: FONT, UPX!, <fBBf and BBf<. An example of a file name is ega.cpx or ega2.cpx.
- 15% of all CPX files use the ZIP format, i.e. a CPX file contains several compressed files. The average file count is 11 with most CPX files containing between 2 - 12 compressed files. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are often between 170 KB and 6 MB in size. A usual file name is CG01_20180601.cpx or CB01_20180601.cpx.
All other CPX files (55%) have no consistent format, often e.g. Windows Codepage translator and CorelDraw compressed format. They are often associated with xcam. If you want to find out which format your CPX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .cpx file to analyze".

How to solve problems with CPX files
- Associate the CPX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open compressed data containers. Because only the current version supports the latest CPX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available UPX update.
- To make sure that your CPX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CPX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
