Opening a GRD File
The GRD file type is primarily associated with Photoshop.
What is a GRD file?
- Main Usage: The GRD file format is used by media editing programs to store gradient files and multi-color fill files. The increment change in colors one after the other is defined by a gradient file by specifying the position of each color and this visual color progression is then used to smoothly fill objects and background pattern related to the images or any media files.
- Associations:
- Surfer Grid File: Surfer Grid files also use GRD file extension. These are basic binary or text data files which are used to store information related with maps. This file format is mostly used by Golden Software's Grid files which store information in the form a two-dimensional lattice.
How can I open a GRD file?
You need a suitable software like Photoshop to open a GRD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GRD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GRD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

GRD file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the GRD files is as follows:
An GRD file includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in GRD files are:
- 20% of all GRD files are associated with Adobe Photoshop gradient. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 23 KB with most files being between 810 bytes and 210 KB in size. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 8BGR, GradObjc, GrdLVlLs, Grdn, Nm TEXT, null, GrdFenum, CstS, Gradient and Intrdoub@. 300Gradient-by-Leo-Simon.grd is a typical file name. Files like these have the following tags: gradients, gradient, pack, degradados, metal and gold.
- 15% of all GRD files belong to Surfer Grid. Most of these files are 63 KB to 8 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. DSAA. These files can be linked to domain.
All the rest of the GRD files (65%) have different formats, often e.g. Symantec Guard Header, config, HDF5, CDF and HGPC. They are often associated with rainfall, mintemp, mint, data, grid, maxtemp or maxt. You can get all the details of your GRD file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .grd file to analyze" above.

a grd gradient file is a special file format by Adobe and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with GRD files
- Associate the GRD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open gradient files. Because only the current version supports the latest GRD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Adobe manufacturer website after an available Photoshop update.
- To make sure that your GRD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GRD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
