What is an IPT file?

IPT files mostly belong to Inventor by Autodesk. An IPT file is a 2D or 3D product part model created with Inventor computer-aided design and engineering program. The file contains vector-based geometry, dimensions, metadata, and documentation for a 3D part of mechanical product assembly (IAM). An assembly created with Inventor is made up of one or more product part models. Another type of IPT file is a color image created with InterPaint image editor. The image contains IPTC metadata and raster graphics. InterPaint is now obsolete but picture viewers such as XnView may be used to open and convert an IPT image file.

How to open IPT files

You need a suitable software like Inventor to open an IPT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IPT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IPT file directly in the browser:.
