Opening a KSC File
The KSC file type is primarily associated with Korg Kronos.
What is a KSC file?
Other uses include:
- Karaoke Song Configuration: These files hold song data including timing, script instructions, and lyric arrangements. They use UTF-16 (LE) encoding and work with applications such as KaraokeKanta and the KiriKiri engine. See KaraokeKanta for additional insight.
- Karaoke Subtitle/Lyrics File: In some cases, the KSC file manages synchronized subtitles and lyrics for karaoke displays. This use is common with players like Karaoke Builder Studio. More information is available at Karafun.
- Aspen Plus Simulation File: Another variant serves as a simulation file for process modeling in applications like K-Spice, storing simulation parameters and model setups.
FilExt.com tip: Each version of a KSC file requires its proper application to open and interpret its data correctly. Using generic editors may not display the structured content or handle the specific encoding used in cases such as the karaoke configurations.
How can I open a KSC file?
You need a suitable software like Korg Kronos to open a KSC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your KSC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a KSC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

KSC file format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the KSC files produces the following result:
KSC is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type includes different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 25% of all KSC files are associated with Korg Trinity/Triton script. These files contain text and words, not binary data. KSC files can be up to 630 KB in size, but are often around 54 bytes - 280 KB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. The files contain the following words: #KORG Script Version 1.0, NEWMS000.KMP and uuid. These files are attributed to kronos, rakic, bank and user, and have often person-related content.
- 5% of all KSC files store the data in the UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 240 bytes in size and range from 28 bytes to 690 bytes. The following filename is common: config.ksc.
The remaining 70% of all KSC files are files with no common format. You can get all the details of your KSC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .ksc file to analyze" above.
