PCG file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the PCG files:
PCG is a very common file type and includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 40% of all PCG files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "01 00 01 14 00" at the beginning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are on average 26 KB in size and range from 4 KB to 51 KB. This is an old file type which is rarely used today. The keywords KORF are typical for these files. Examples of file names are USER01.PCG or USER02.PCG. These files are often associated with userdk.
- 30% of all PCG files are associated with Korg Trinity/Triton instruments bank. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 530 KB. The keywords PCG1, DIV1, KORG, PRG1 and PBK1 are typical for these files. A common filename is NEWFILE.PCG. Such files sometimes refer to korg, preload, disc, korgx, audora, load and trin.
All other PCG files (30%) have no consistent format, often, for example, AutoDesk Revit Indexed Point Cloud, The Print Shop Deluxe Columns Graphic and snail. These files are often connected to zebra, settings, textures, datawedge, config or models. If you want to find out what your PCG file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
