What is an MPR file?

MPR files mostly belong to Visual Foxpro by Microsoft. MPR files are text-based files containing code written in the deprecated data-centric procedural programming language called Visual FoxPro, made by Microsoft.

File structure: FoxPro had multiple types of file formats and MPR files, in particular, were called "Menu Files" or "Generated Menu Programs". As their name implied, they contained code that represented a written program that would make user interface changes (or rather, create a 'menu system') when executed. Put simply, they acted as load/save files for UI configurations. The code itself was said to resemble other programming languages such as Basic.
Compatible software: Since they are just programming language files, MPR files can be opened and edited by any text editor, both ordinary like Notepad and coding text editors like Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code. To execute the files, however, you would need a copy of the original FoxPro IDE (Integrated Developement Environment) which supports only Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003.
Other associations: MPR files could also refer to "Variant Files" used by the CNC programming software woodWOP. Written in ASCII code, these files saved given data that was passed onto the post-processor.

How to open MPR files

You need a suitable software like Visual Foxpro to open an MPR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
