What is an OTM file?

OTM files mostly belong to Outlook by Microsoft. An OTM file is a macro used by Outlook email and calendar management software. It contains a sequence of commands written in Visual Basic for Applications language and used to automate email and scheduling operations within Outlook. An OTM macro can automate repetitive tasks such as extracting email attachments and forwarding emails. Another type of OTM file is a matrix template created and used by Origin data analysis and graphing software. It contains formatting and data handling options of matrixbooks created with Origin. OTM is also the filename extension of a playlist template used by OtsAV media playout software.

How to open OTM files

You need a suitable software like Outlook to open an OTM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. • 7% of all OTM files internally utilize the JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. A typical file size is 600 bytes. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as "origin_app": "default", buffer_type, noun, target_id, {"selection_areas": [{"layer", "none", "targetId" and POINT. Such OTM files store data about settings.
