All about SPI Files
The SPI file type is primarily associated with ShadowProtect.
What is an SPI file?
How to open SPI files
You need a suitable software like ShadowProtect to open an SPI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SPI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SPI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SPI files:
- ShadowProtect by StorageCraft Technology Corporation
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SPI files are often referred to as ShadowProtect backups because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Scanner Graphics
- Stupsi Script
SPI file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the SPI files comes to the following conclusion:
You will often come across the SPI file type. This covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in SPI files:
- 35% of all SPI files start with the magic bytes 14 00 00 00 AA 01 00 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. SPI files are between 1 KB and 340 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Examples of file names are battery_error.spi or battery_low.spi. Such files are related to page, battery, charging, error, cover, temperature, fast, normal and water.
- 15% of all SPI files start with the magic bytes SPFI, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 370 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SPFI and nonic.
All the rest of the SPI files (50%) have different formats, frequently e.g. EXE, JFIF and SUBCKT. Sometimes used for demo, info, janestyle, emoji or data. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your SPI file!
Technical Data for SPI File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: C:\Spider\Spider.EXE %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\HEAT\Programs\HEATUP.EXE
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\StorageCraft\ShadowProtect\sbmntwiz.exe/MOUNT
an spi data backup file is a special file format by StorageCraft Technology Corporation and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SPI files
- Associate the SPI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data backup files. Because only the current version supports the latest SPI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the StorageCraft Technology Corporation manufacturer website after an available ShadowProtect update.
- To make sure that your SPI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SPI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
