All about ST Files
The ST file type is primarily associated with MATLAB.
What is an ST file?
How to open ST files
You need a suitable software like MATLAB to open an ST file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ST file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ST file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ST files:
- MATLAB by MathWorks
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ST files are often referred to as MATLAB data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

ST file format:
To find out what program is needed to open ST files, you need to determine the file format. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the ST files:
You will often come across the ST file type. This covers a large number of different file formats. The file formats most commonly found in ST files are:
- 10% of all ST files use the same file format, which have the signature "0",1. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are on average 87 KB in size and range from 4 KB to 210 KB. The file type was created recently. The following keywords are characteristic: BSJ7 and IMTR. Some examples of file names are ST20180601.ST.
- 8% of all ST files have the same signature 01 58. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 3 KB to 4 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 4 L L L and 4 LA LA. The file name slp01a.st or slp01b.st is typical for these files.
All the rest of the ST files (82%) have different formats, often, for example, ZIP, state and time. Files like these are sometimes linked to state, global, tranem, gabe, node, manifest, signal or disk. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your ST file!

an st sleep/apnea annotation is a special file format by MathWorks and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with ST files
- Associate the ST file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open sleep/apnea annotations. Because only the current version supports the latest ST file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the MathWorks manufacturer website after an available MATLAB update.
- To make sure that your ST file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ST file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
