What is a TAG file?
For example, some files store Zoom recording metadata with details about call sessions. Other examples include:
How to open TAG files
You need a suitable software like Zoom to open a TAG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TAG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TAG file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

TAG file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the TAG files:
The file type with the extension 'TAG' includes various formats for various programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 25% of all TAG files use the same file format, which have the signature double_click_to_convert_01.zoom:. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The file size is in the range of 260 bytes to 530 bytes. The file type is a fairly new file format. The following keywords are characteristic: len, status, tag, double_click_to_convert_01.zoom: ver=1 and double_click_to_convert_02.zoom: ver=1. The file name zoomver.tag is typical for these files.
- 5% of all TAG files start with the bytes 00 04 00 00 crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are often between 7 MB and 88 MB in size. The keywords NISOC are typical for these files. Examples of file names are 20180601.Tag.
The remaining 70% of all TAG files are files with no common format, such as TagInfo data, Cache Directory Tagging Standard, CADTAG data, UTF-16 (LE) and MNI. These files sometimes refer to mifareclassic, master, case, hddrecovery, beforeus, afterus, newtags or rtklib. If you want to find out what your TAG file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

- Associate the TAG file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open metadata containers. Because only the current version supports the latest TAG file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Zoom update.
- To make sure that your TAG file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
