Opening a UTI File
The UTI file type is primarily associated with SafeGuard, KotOR Tool, ZIP extractor.
What is a UTI file?
For example, one type of UTI file acts as a game item file used with the BioWare Aurora Engine. This file stores game assets for titles like Knights of the Old Republic and is often handled with specialized mod tools such as the KotOR Tool.
Another format is an encrypted file created by the Utimaco SafeGuard system. These files secure data with SafeGuard encryption methods and require proprietary decryption software. More information is available on the Utimaco website.
A third usage sees the UTI extension on a file that internally uses the ZIP format to contain an Excel workbook or a compressed dictionary. In this case, renaming the file to a .zip extension and extracting its contents can allow you to open the document in a spreadsheet program.
- Game Item File: Holds game assets for BioWare titles.
- Encrypted File: Utilizes Utimaco's encryption and requires SafeGuard software.
- Compressed File: Contains a ZIP archive such as an Excel workbook.
FilExt.com notes: Determine the file's source before attempting to open it. A quick look at the file header or consulting its origin can help decide which tool to use. Always back up the file before using unfamiliar software.

UTI file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the UTI files looks like this:
You will often come across the UTI file type. This covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 50% of all UTI files are associated with SafeGuard PrivateCrypto Encrypted data. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 15 KB to 15 MB. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as ENCRYPTED FILE, SafeGuard PrivateCrypto and Copyright (C) 2008 Utimaco Safeware AG. Such files are related to beveiligd, stukken, vertalen, contract and soaotc, and often contain personal information.
- 45% of all UTI files have the same signature UTI V3.. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 2 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. UTI V3.28. Such files are related to robe, lghtsbr, potion, clothes, hsli, clothing and class.
All other UTI files (5%) have no consistent format, often e.g. ZIP. Tagged as mstrrobe, angol, jedirobe, uzleti, armor, light, quest, avol, band, crys or form. If you want to find out which format your UTI file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .uti file to analyze".
