Opening a VAL File
The VAL file type is primarily associated with Debugger.
What is a VAL file?
- Process Memory Dump: Some VAL files are Windows executable files that record process memory dumps. They usually follow the PE format and are examined with debugging tools. For more technical detail, see the Microsoft documentation.
- Sewing Pattern (XML): Other VAL files are structured in XML to store data for Seamly2D/Valentina sewing patterns. These files hold design elements such as pattern instructions and measurements.
- 3D Model File: In certain cases, a VAL file holds 3D model data. Such files are used by programs like VariCAD and sometimes imported into SketchUp to handle geometry and design data.
- Spectrophotometer Validation Data: Another use involves storing validation and calibration data from spectrophotometers like the UVProbe by Shimadzu. Information about this can be found on the Shimadzu website.
The internal structure of a VAL file depends on the generating software. Accordingly, opening and viewing one requires the correct tool: a debugger for memory dumps, a text or XML editor for sewing patterns, a 3D viewer for model files, or the instrument’s software for validation data.
FilExt.com tip: A quick look with a hex editor or plain text editor can often reveal whether the content is binary or XML, helping to determine the file's true nature.
How to open VAL files
You need a suitable software like Debugger to open a VAL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VAL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VAL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert VAL files:
- Debugger
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. VAL files are often referred to as Debugger executables because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Chemical ASN Interchange File (New Format)The Mime types used with this association are: chemical/x-ncbi-asn1-binary.
- dBASE Values
- Paradox Validity Checks
- valodas (Dictionary) by valodasvalodas is free cross-platform language learning software. This file format is classified as Archive.
- VALU Macintosh Spreadsheet
VAL file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the VAL files is as follows:
The VAL file type does not have a uniform file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in VAL files:
- 15% of all VAL files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10" at the beginning. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 940 bytes and 81 KB in size. The file type is very recent. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as x:no and C:\WINDOWS\System32\Taskmgr.exe. An example of a file name is F4EB2D6C-ED2B-4BDD-AD9D-F913287E6768.val. These files can be linked to subsys.
- 5% of all VAL files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are on average 16 KB in size and range from 3 KB to 69 KB. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <pattern>, <!--Pattern created, <unit>cm</unit>, https, description, with Seamly2D, --Pattern created with Valentina v0 and with Valentina. Files like these have the following tags: stocking and seamed.
All other VAL files (80%) have no uniform format. The category is data, validation, period, result, showpdf, users or code. You can get all the details of your VAL file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .val file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for VAL File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

a val executable is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with VAL files
- Associate the VAL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open executables. Because only the current version supports the latest VAL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Debugger update.
- To make sure that your VAL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .VAL file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
