What is a WSDL file?

WSDL files mostly belong to Visual Studio by Microsoft. A WSDL file contains an XML-encoded description of functionality provided by each endpoint/port of a web service. Such a description includes information like the name of a web service, protocol/encoding, operations, arguments for calling it, response(s) to expect etc. The WSDL file is written in Web Services Description Language which is based on Extensible Markup Language. SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) based web applications use WSDL files to expose network-accessible services on the Internet. Development tools like Visual Studio, oXygen XML Editor, Liquid Studio, and other text editors can create/edit a WSDL document.

How to open WSDL files

You need a suitable software like Visual Studio to open a WSDL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
