What is an A2L file

A2L files mostly belong to ASAP2 Tool-Set by Vector. An A2L file contains information about all data objects describing the interface (measurements, properties, and access permissions) of an Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The contents of this file are stored as ASCII or UTF-encoded text in accordance with the ASAM MCD-2 MC (previously ASAP-2) standard used for measurement, calibration, and diagnostics. Parameters, real/virtual measured variables, maps, variant dependencies, and unit conversion rules created for an ECU are stored in this file. Electronic Control Unit modeling, testing, and calibration tools such as CANape, ASAP2 Tool-Set, and, Simulink can be used to create and edit an A2L file.
