What is an AB file?

AB files mostly belong to Android SDK by Google. AB filename extension is associated with files containing Android phone system backups created with the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) component of Android Software Development Kit. An AB file saved in this format is a TAR archive with modified headers. The file contains a full system backup including (user data, media files, system applications, and third-party APKs). AB is also the filename extension of encrypted AssetBundle archives used by Unity game engine. These AB files store platform-specific non-code assets such as models, textures, prefabs, audio clips and scenes. How to open an AB file

You need a suitable software like Android SDK to open an AB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The file format determines how the data is stored in the file.
