Opening an ALA File
The ALA file type is primarily associated with CryEngine.
What is an ALA file
How do you open ALA files?
You need a suitable software like CryEngine to open an ALA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ALA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ALA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ALA files:
- CryEngine
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ALA files are often referred to as CryEngine games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

ALA file format:
To view or edit ALA files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the ALA files:
The ALA file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in ALA files are:
- 45% of all ALA files start with the bytes 00 10 00 00 crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. ALA files can be up to 490 KB in size, but are often around 3 KB - 52 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Such files sometimes refer to idle, attack, deploy, venator, juggernaut, droid, class, land and move.
- 15% of all ALA files utilize the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This general-purpose file format provides a file-system-like structure within a file for the storage of arbitrary, application-specific streams of data. Compound files always start with the bytes ÐÏࡱá (hex code D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1). Sections and streams in the file are named FileInfo, NonGraph, OptionsMgr, FindMgr, Graphs, MainApp, MainFrame, PlugInMgrSystem, ShellTooltipInfo, SystemInfo, SystemMarkerMgr, ProtocolMgr, RunPropertiesModel and StatusPropertySheet. The files are 460 KB to 170 MB in size, with a median of 34 MB.
The remaining 40% of all ALA files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. TIFF. Sometimes used for assudais or contrat. You can get all the details of your ALA file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .ala file to analyze" above.
