What is an ALA file

ALA files mostly belong to CryEngine. ALA files are not a single file type; they are used in several domains.

3D Animation: The most common use is as a 3D animation file for game characters and objects. This format is used by CryEngine to store keyframes, rigging, and motion data. More details are available at CryEngine.

Logic Analyzer Data: some of ALA files use the Microsoft Compound format to store data from instruments like the Tektronix TLA7000 Series Oscilloscope. These files collect digital signal information and are used with analysis software such as Logic 2. See Tektronix for further information.

To view or edit ALA files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The ALA file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in ALA files are:

• 45% of all ALA files start with the bytes 00 10 00 00 crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. ALA files can be up to 490 KB in size, but are often around 3 KB - 52 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Such files sometimes refer to idle, attack, deploy, venator, juggernaut, droid, class, land and move.
• 15% of all ALA files utilize the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This general-purpose file format provides a file-system-like structure within a file for the storage of arbitrary, application-specific streams of data. Compound files always start with the bytes ÐÏࡱá (hex code D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1). Sections and streams in the file are named FileInfo, NonGraph, OptionsMgr, FindMgr, Graphs, MainApp, MainFrame, PlugInMgrSystem, ShellTooltipInfo, SystemInfo, SystemMarkerMgr, ProtocolMgr, RunPropertiesModel and StatusPropertySheet. The files are 460 KB to 170 MB in size, with a median of 34 MB.
