Opening an ATTR File
The ATTR file type is primarily associated with iPhoto.
What is an ATTR file?
In one case, these files serve as a macOS file metadata container for iPhoto. They save details about images that help the software manage and organize your photo library.
In another case, an ATTR file is an attribute data file used in Mentor Graphics systems, especially with the PADS PCB Design Suite. This file type stores design attributes and parameters that guide electronic circuit layout.

ATTR format details:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our examination of the ATTR files comes to the following conclusion:
ATTR is rarely used as a file extension and includes various formats for various programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 45% of all ATTR files are iPhoto image data files. They consist of unreadable binary data. ATTR files can be up to 310 KB in size, but are often around 370 bytes - 6 KB. This file type was primarily in use more than 10 years ago. The keywords AttributeMgr, Attributes, NSDictionary, NSMutableDictionary, NSObject, NSString, typedstream, NSDate and NSNumber are typical for these files.
- 25% of all ATTR files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 00. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. ATTR files are between 1.6 KB and 1.6 KB in size.
All other ATTR files (30%) have different formats. Tagged as data, meta or tile. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your ATTR file!
Technical Data for ATTR File Extension
an attr metadata container is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with ATTR files
- Associate the ATTR file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open metadata containers. Because only the current version supports the latest ATTR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available iPhoto update.
- To make sure that your ATTR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ATTR file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
