What is a B3D file?

B3D files mostly belong to Blitz3D/Max/Plus by Blitz Research Ltd. Files with B3D extension are 3D models (commonly called "entities") created using Blitz3D, a software development kit and programming language for building video games. An entity stored in a B3D file is usually an in-game character, a terrain, or a structure in a game scene (e.g. a building). B3D specifies a format for storing texture, vertices, brush, entities, and animation information in "chunks" for use with the Blitz3D programming language during game development. Third party programs such as 3DS Max may be used to open B3D files. BodyPaint 3D, a 3D graphics program also uses B3D as its default extension for saving 3D models.

How to open B3D files

You need a suitable software like Blitz3D/Max/Plus to open a B3D file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your B3D file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a B3D file directly in the browser:. 20% of all B3D files start with the bytes BZ85 crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 17 KB and 980 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Article, ExtraInfo, Furniture, Header, LDistance, Thumbnail, Version, Name, RotationList, LDistance.Max, Drawings, Materials, FileType, LDistance.Min, Specific and OrderName. Files like these are about auto and save.

All other B3D files (20%) have no consistent format, the following 5 formats can be found: Hard Truck 3D models, DBody and Mesh.
