Programs that open and convert BRAW files:
- DaVinci Resolve
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. BRAW files are often referred to as DaVinci Resolve videos because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- DaVinci ResolveA *.BRAW file contains video data saved in the Blackmagic RAW format, developed by Blackmagic Design. This format is designed to capture high-quality video data from cameras and is optimized for use with the company's video editing and color grading software, DaVinci Resolve. Blackmagic RAW is a codec that compresses raw sensor data from cameras into a format suitable for post-production. It offers several compression options, balancing file size with image quality. The format is intended to provide efficient storage and streamlined workflows for professional video production. This file format is classified as video.
BRAW file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the BRAW files:
BRAW is rarely used as a file extension and is primarily used by a single program. But the following two file formats are common:
- 70% of all BRAW files are Blackmagic RAW video files. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 70 MB. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. mdat and wide.
- 25% of all BRAW files start with the bytes 00 00 00 01 6D 64 61 74 crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. BRAW files are between 70 MB and 6 GB in size. The files contain the following words: mdat.
All other BRAW files (5%) have different formats. If you want to find out what your BRAW file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
