Opening BTL Files
The BTL file type is primarily associated with Battle Realms.
What is a BTL file?
How to open a BTL file
You need a suitable software like Battle Realms to open a BTL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BTL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BTL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

BTL format details:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the BTL files looks like this:
BTL is rarely used as a file extension and includes many different file formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all BTL files have the same signature * Sea-Bird SBE . The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. BTL files are between 8 KB and 17 KB in size. The files contain the following words: FileName, * Sea-Bird SBE 9 Data File, * Software Version Seasave V 7.23.1, * Conductivity SN = 2833, * Number of Bytes Per Scan = 31, * Temperature SN = 4240, CTD_Data and Ctddata. These files are often associated with trxd.
- 20% of all BTL files have the same signature 01 00 00 00. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are often between 32 KB and 78 KB in size. An example of a file name is conquest1.btl or conquest4.btl.
The remaining 60% of all BTL files are files with no common format, often e.g. BTL and VERSION. Files like these are sometimes linked to allies, stage, pacific, western, africa or axis. If you want to find out which format your BTL file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .btl file to analyze".

How to solve problems with BTL files
- Associate the BTL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open structured data files. Because only the current version supports the latest BTL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Battle Realms update.
- To make sure that your BTL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
