Opening a CAM File
The CAM file type is primarily associated with Eagle.
What is a CAM file?
How to open CAM files
You need a suitable software like Eagle to open a CAM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CAM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CAM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CAM file format details:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the CAM files:
The CAM file extension is used very often and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 45% of all CAM files are Casio QV digital CAMera bitmap files. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 24 KB and 64 KB in size. The file type is very old and rarely used today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. JFIF. Files like these have the following tags: eropa, alcyf, befer, calif, canyo, baby, boda and qvpc.
- 15% of all CAM files start with the bytes *STATUSB crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are often between 68 KB and 11 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as *END_STATUS, *SETTINGS, *STATUSB, DATABASE, MODE Cam, RESOLUTION, CENTER, UNIT 1 and DBVERSION 9. Files like these are about confirm and panel.
All other CAM files (40%) have no consistent format, such as MSN Messenger ML20 video, config, CYLBPC and Binary. These files sometimes refer to photo, gerber, camera, jjunk, triplets, unzip or ener. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CAM file!

a cam PCB design is a special file format by Autodesk and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CAM files
- Associate the CAM file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open pcb designs. Because only the current version supports the latest CAM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Autodesk manufacturer website after an available Eagle update.
- To make sure that your CAM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CAM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
