What is a CRV file

CRV files mostly belong to Vcarve by Vectric. A CRV file is a 2D or 3D design created with VCarve computer-aided design, cutting, and manufacturing software. The file contains signage, wood carving models, engraving instructions, toolpaths, as well as machining and router instructions. Such a CRV file can be exported to a CNC router and used to create the actual product. Another type of CRV file contains custom gradients used by PHOTO-PAINT image editor. Daqarta, a Windows-based FTT spectrum analysis program saves extended audio data in a CRV file. Surveillance videos captured by older Marmitek cameras are also saved in CRV files.

How to open CRV files

You need a suitable software like Vcarve to open a CRV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CRV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CRV file directly in the browser:. The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. • 60% of all CRV files utilize the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. • 5% of all CRV files use the same file format, which have the signature FE AB. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. CRV files are between 5 KB and 210 KB in size. The files contain the following words: VoltaLab, Experiment, 00000e and 00000e-001.

All other CRV files (35%) have no uniform format, often e.g. Bosch, REV, Line, Dat and curve.
