What is a DAY file?

DAY files mostly belong to Novitus Mała Kasa. An DAY file can hold data recorded on a daily basis. In one use, these files serve as fiscal records that store Polish receipt data; they are produced by vendors such as Novitus Mała Kasa. In other cases, the same extension is used for database records. For example, some DAY files use the JetDB internal format to keep gas database information, a setup seen in systems like Standard Jet DB and AspenTech InfoPlus.21 (more details). There are also DAY files that hold station data for hydrological measurements (GRDC-Data-Processing-Tool - details), while some come in a compressed form using ZIP (as seen with Axelerator).

How to open DAY files

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the DAY files:

The DAY file extension is not widely used. Such a file does not have a uniform file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in DAY files:

• 15% of all DAY files start with the magic bytes 44 01, which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. A typical file size is 13 KB. The file type is relatively new. The files contain the following words: PARAGON FISKALNY - KOPIA.
• 4% of all DAY files start with the bytes # Title: GRDC STATION DATA FILE #, which are crucial for this file format. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The average file size is 560 KB with most files being between 310 KB and 1 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as   -------------, # Date format:   YYYY-MM-DD; YYYY-MM; YYYY; MM, # Field delimiter, # Format:   DOS-ASCII and # Title:   GRDC STATION DATA FILE.
