What is a DCH file

DCH files mostly belong to DipTrace. DCH files are mainly used as schematic design files for printed circuit board projects. They are most often created by DipTrace and contain the circuit layout information needed for PCB design.

DipTrace schematic: These files store circuit diagrams in a format that DipTrace uses. You can open them using DipTrace software. See DipTrace official website for more details.

DesignSpark PCB schematic: Some files are made in a similar structure for PCB schematics and are used by tools like DesignSpark.

3D audio/Compressed drive image: In rare cases, DCH files can be 3D audio files or compressed drive images, which require other specialized viewers such as DCH Player or XnViewMP.

How to open a DCH file

You need a suitable software like DipTrace to open a DCH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. DCH file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. • 85% of all DCH files are associated with DipTrace Schematic. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 240 KB in size and range from 57 KB to 640 KB. The file type is relatively new. The files contain the following words: DTSCHEM, Defaul and Sheet. These files are attributed to schematic, board, mega, fuzzy, naked, inverterino, shield and step.
• 8% of all DCH files start with the bytes 0B 44 54 53 43 48 45 4D, which are crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The average file size is 54 KB with most files being between 14 KB and 270 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: BGSheet 1, DTSCHEM1, BGDefault, DTSCHEM2.22; and BFPart 1. The file name BatteryTester.dch is typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: control.
