What is a DRAFT file?

DRAFT files mostly belong to Income Tax Return e-Filing Utility. DRAFT files are files that store in-progress work data for various applications.
These files are not final documents; they are used to hold temporary information until you complete your work. For example:

Tax Form Draft (XML): A large number of these files are used to save unsaved Indian tax form data. They are handled by the Income Tax Return e-Filing Utility. More details can be found at the income tax portal.

Inspection Form Draft (JSON): Some files use a JSON structure to store unsubmitted inspection forms used by Caterpillar systems.

Design and Document Draft (ZIP): Other instances include unfinished documents or design files, such as unsaved work from Adobe Illustrator or even Microsoft Word documents handled within Google Docs (Google Docs). They use ZIP compression to package the data.

How to open a DRAFT file

You need a suitable software like Income Tax Return e-Filing Utility to open a DRAFT file. Files with the DRAFT extension are quite widely used. This file type is primarily used by a single program. But the following two file formats are common:

• 85% of all DRAFT files save the data in XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are on average 36 KB in size and range from 4 KB to 120 KB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. FORM, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>, http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/common, <ITRETURN:ITR xmlns:ITRETURN="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/main" and ITRForm. Such files are related to form, audit, cacd, ceaa, utility and return, and often consist of personal data.
• 3% of all DRAFT files are based on the well-known JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are on average 57 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 130 KB. The keywords EntryInformation, FormName, InspectionTypeName, ProductFamily, SerialNumberPrefix, FormDefinition, Categories and FormNumber are typical for these files.
