What is a DWF file?

DWF files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. Files with DWF extension are 2D/3D drawings, design data (e.g. text), text, hierarchy, and metadata saved in the Design Web (container) Format (DWF) created by Autodesk. A DWF file can be opened by many 3D design software but it is mostly created and opened with AutoCAD. Due to the potentially large file size of its graphics content, DWF files use compressed ZIP format. Because of this compression, DWF files are smaller and faster to transfer between applications. Multiple AutoCAD drawings (DWG) can be stored in a single DWF file. A DWF file can have several MIME types including model/vnd.dwf, image/x-dwf, image/vnd.dwf, application/dwf, drawing/x-dwf, and others.

How to open DWF files

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD from Autodesk to open a DWF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DWF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DWF file directly in the browser:.
