What is a DWL2 file?

DWL2 files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. DWL2 is the filename extension of an XML encoded lock file which AutoCAD uses to prevent multiple users from editing a single DWG (drawing) concurrently. This file is similar to the DWL file which performs the same function –their only difference being that DWL files are saved as plain text while DWL2 files are XML documents. It contains information about a drawing file's path, the user who is currently editing it, and what time the file was opened. Except in the case of a crash, AutoCAD automatically deletes a DWL2 file when its corresponding drawing is closed.

How to open a DWL2 file

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD from Autodesk to open a DWL2 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
