What is an EXO file?

EXO files mostly belong to Youtube by Google. EXO files are chunks or segments of encrypted video content saved as part of a video downloaded for offline playback from YouTube Android app. An EXO file contains part of a larger video file which YouTube stores on an Android device. The larger video file is split and encrypted as EXO files to prevent illegal download or playback of YouTube videos. For this reason, EXO files cannot be converted to MP4 or any other video format because the files are encrypted and relevant only within the context of the YouTube app. When an offline video is played on YouTube, the program assembles and decrypts EXO video chunks to allow playback. How to open an EXO file

You need a suitable software like Youtube from Google to open an EXO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. EXO file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the EXO files:

EXO is a very common file type and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 8% of all EXO files start with the magic bytes 00 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 18 KB to 5 MB in size, with a median of 310 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The following keywords are characteristic: mfhd, tfhd, tfdt, trun, moof and traf. Files like these are sometimes connected to null.
• 7% of all EXO files are using the well-known MP4 file format to store the data. MP4 is a multimedia container format used to store video and audio and allows streaming over the Internet. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are 1 KB to 2 MB in size, with a median of 100 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. lmvhd, \tkhd, moov, ftypisom, isomiso2avc1mp41 and trak.

All other EXO files (85%) have different formats, often, for example, XML, MP3, MKV, EXTM, styp, Todg, exedit, BIF, WEBVTT and CDF.
