What is an EXO file?

EXO files mostly belong to Youtube by Google. EXO files are chunks or segments of encrypted video content saved as part of a video downloaded for offline playback from YouTube Android app. An EXO file contains part of a larger video file which YouTube stores on an Android device. The larger video file is split and encrypted as EXO files to prevent illegal download or playback of YouTube videos. For this reason, EXO files cannot be converted to MP4 or any other video format because the files are encrypted and relevant only within the context of the YouTube app. When an offline video is played on YouTube, the program assembles and decrypts EXO video chunks to allow playback. EXORmacs, a software development kit used to create VersaDOS programs based on the Motorola 68000 platform also saves data in EXO files.

How to open an EXO file

You need a suitable software like Youtube from Google to open an EXO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EXO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EXO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the EXO files:

All other EXO files (85%) have different formats, often, for example, XML, MP3, MKV, EXTM, styp, Todg, exedit, BIF, WEBVTT and CDF. Files like these are sometimes linked to lcied, goss, attachment, messaging, redirect or dqttzko.
