What is an FNT file?

FNT files mostly belong to Windows by Microsoft. FNT is an obsolete font format that was mainly used by Windows and embedded systems. An FNT font is usually saved as a bitmap but it may also be saved as a vector graphic. Most fonts saved in this format are distributed as portable executables. The file signature of fonts saved in FNT files may differ based on the program used to create them. FNT files have been replaced by OpenType OTF and TrueType TTF fonts. Video games such as Natural Selection 2, M.U.G.E.N, and Persona 4 also use fonts saved in FNT format.

How to open an FNT file

You need a suitable software like Windows to open an FNT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. FNT file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are on average 37 KB in size and range from 3 KB to 190 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: bold, size, <font>, padding, spacing, <?xml version="1.0"?>, info face, outline, italic="0" charset="", unicode="1" stretchH="100", smooth="1" aa="1" and common. A common filename is font.fnt or Russian.fnt. Such FNT files store data about regular, condensed, renogare, sans, extra and fira.

The remaining 71% of all FNT files are different files with different signatures, the following 60 formats can be found: Elecbyte M, XCar Font, FONTX2 Font, Windows Font resource, OdinFont font, DIV Games Studio Font, Dr. Halo Font, XML, config, UTF-8, JSON, fon, FONT, ASF, BFNT, FCV and ILFF.
