What is an FPT file?

FPT files mostly belong to FileMaker Pro by Claris. An FPT file contains a database memo used by programs such as FileMaker Pro, Alpha Anywhere, FoxPro, and iAnywhere. A database memo usually contains plain text information about database fields. NovaBACKUP file/system backup software uses an FPT file to save information about its backup database. Another type of FPT file contains the thumbnail cache of images imported into ACDSee Photo Studio. How to open an FPT file

You need a suitable software like FileMaker Pro to open an FPT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FPT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FPT file directly in the browser:. To find out what program is needed to open FPT files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. 70% of all FPT files are associated with Sybase iAnywhere memo files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 510 bytes to 950 KB in size. The file type was used 20 years ago but is still in use today. An example of a file name is FOXUSER.FPT.
5% of all FPT files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Microsoft Compound File is a complex container format used by some versions of Microsoft Office and other Windows-centric applications. It has features similar to those of a filesystem format. The file signature of compound files is defined as D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1, so the first character of a file looks like "DOCFILE". The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. Most of these files are 69 KB to 33 MB in size.
