What is an FXS file?

FXS files mostly belong to Messiah by pmG. FXS files contain 3D scenes created in Messiah, a 3D graphics software for creating and rendering 3D animations. The FXS file contains character motion data, model data, meshes, lighting, surfaces, textures and other data that pertain to the 3D objects in a scene. In the past, WinFax, a Windows-based fax software used the FXS file extension to store the images in a faxed document. Another outdated use case of the FXS filename extension is with The Land of UM, a mathematics trivia software developed by GreyGum for Windows PCs.

How to open an FXS file

You need a suitable software like Messiah to open an FXS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FXS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FXS file directly in the browser:. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the FXS files:

FXS is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

50% of all FXS files use the same file format, which have the signature 0B 23. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. FXS files are between 21 KB and 91 KB in size. This file type was primarily in use more than 20 years ago. These files can be linked to compatibility, page, sale and siva.
15% of all FXS files use the same file format, which have the signature 04 07 06 08 00. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The average file size is 13 KB with most files being between 1 KB and 85 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as fxs_headerd, allk, http, undefinedd and yang.

All other FXS files (35%) have no consistent format, often, for example, CON and hoven. These files are often connected to save, class, introduction, splines, annual, return, anual or gstr. How to solve problems with FXS files

Associate the FXS file extension with the correct application.
Update your software that should actually open 3d scenes. Because only the current version supports the latest FXS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the pmG manufacturer website after an available Messiah update.
To make sure that your FXS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
