What is an FXR file?

FXR files mostly belong to WinFax. FXR files are a file extension with several specialized functions.
The main use is as a fax document format used by fax applications like WinFax and WinFax Pro. In this role, the file stores fax transmission data in a proprietary layout.
Other uses include:

How to open an FXR file

You need a suitable software like WinFax to open an FXR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FXR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FXR file directly in the browser:. How do you convert FXR files to JPG, PDF, HTML, DOC, ...

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. You will often come across the FXR file type. This is primarily used by a single program. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 80% of all FXR files are associated with WinFax Sent / Received document. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are on average 48 KB in size and range from 21 KB to 86 KB. The file type was primarily used more than 20 years ago. Files like these have the following tags: clarington, response, silicate, calcium, ponuda, birth, insul, standards, lettera, molin, mujic, hole and page.
• 10% of all FXR files use the same file format, which have the signature FXR. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 570 bytes and 27 KB in size. Examples of file names are f000000001.fxr or f000000002.fxr.
