All about FZP Files
The FZP file type is primarily associated with Fritzing.
What is an FZP file?
FZP files exist in two distinct uses. The majority are Fritzing Part Files that use an XML structure to store details of electronic components. These files record part definitions, connection points, and configuration data for use in electronics design. They are best viewed and managed with the Fritzing application. For further technical details, visit the Fritzing website.
The remaining FZP files belong to the PTV Vissim ecosystem. They serve as simulation data files and vehicle input files for traffic simulation projects. In these cases, the file content can be encoded in plain text (such as UTF-8) and is used to set simulation parameters and vehicle behavior data. More information can be found on the PTV Vissim webpage.
Usage Tips:
- If you need to view or modify a Fritzing Part File, consider using an XML editor alongside Fritzing for accurate display.
- For simulation files, always verify the text encoding and backup the original file before making manual changes.
How to open FZP files
You need a suitable software like Fritzing to open an FZP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FZP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FZP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

How to extract texts from FZP files or capture a screenshot to PDF, JPG, DOCX, TXT, ...
If you want to extract texts from FZP file or capture a screenshot, you can use our free Online FZP File Viewer:- To do this, click the button "Choose your .fzp file to view" on this page.
- Your FZP file will then be displayed in the browser.
- Now click on "Save as..." at the top of the page.
- Then choose the file format (e.g. JPG, PDF, DOCX, TXT, ...) you want.
- Your file will be converted and downloaded.
Programs that open and convert FZP files:
- Fritzing
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FZP files are often referred to as Fritzing data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

FZP file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the FZP files looks like this:
The FZP file extension is not widely used. Such a file mainly uses a defined FZP format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 70% of all FZP files are Fritzing Part files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. FZP files are between 3 KB and 19 KB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The keywords referenceFile, <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>, fritzingVersion, moduleId, module moduleId and author are typical for these files. These files can be linked to module, prefix, arduino, adafruit, mini, sensor and pico.
- 15% of all FZP files start with the magic bytes $VISION * , which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. FZP files are between 97 KB and 140 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as $VISION, Date, * Comment, * PTV Vissim: 10.00 [16], * File: C:\Users\sysbernie\Box Sync\Study\PhD Research\IEEE ITS Review\Simulation - Trajectory\L2_0.2ReductionF_200.inpx and Table. Files like these have the following tags: reductionf.
All other FZP files (15%) have no consistent format, such as UTF-8 and ZIP. Files like these are sometimes linked to controller, fstruc or vissim. If you want to find out what your FZP file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for FZP File Extension

How to solve problems with FZP files
- Associate the FZP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest FZP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Fritzing update.
- To make sure that your FZP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FZP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
