All about GX Files
The GX file type is primarily associated with FlashPrint.
What is a GX file?
FlashForge 3D Printer File (primary use):
These GX files are used by FlashForge 3D printers. They contain data and instructions processed by FlashPrint. The file holds 3D slicing details that the printer follows. For more details, visit FlashForge.
Other Applications:
FilExt.com note: Each GX file is a specialized data file. It must be opened with the native application to correctly view and edit its contents.
How to open a GX file

Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

GX file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the GX files looks like this:
You will often come across the GX file type. This is mainly used by one program with a specific format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 85% of all GX files belong to FlashPrint XG-Code. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are 260 KB to 13 MB in size, with a median of 2 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The keywords xgcode 1.0 and BMv8 are typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: cube, holder, adventurer, sizzling, twisting, check, cover, leelo, tower, twins and body.
- 4% of all GX files have the same signature ["gx_head_file_version",. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are 33 KB to 290 KB in size, with a median of 150 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. "AC-15.position": 1, "AC-15.pp": "pre", "AC-30.position": 1, "AC-30.pp": "pre", "engine": {, gx_head_file_version and Ampeg. Some examples of file names are Joe2.gx or rock_heavy_rack.gx. Such GX files store data about heavy, rack and rock.
All the rest of the GX files (11%) have different formats, frequently e.g. GEOX. Files like these are sometimes linked to usgs, filament, keychain, coaster, creator, bottom, mmcube, covid or mount. If you want to find out what your GX file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for GX File Extension

- Associate the GX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest GX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available FlashPrint update.
- To make sure that your GX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
