What is an HDX file?

HDX files mostly belong to Huawei HDX Reader. HDX files are most often used by Huawei Documentation Explorer to store product documentation. These files use a ZIP archive format that bundles text, images, and technical files together. You can open them with the Huawei HDX Reader or any standard ZIP utility to inspect the contents.
Some HDX files come from the Home Design 3D software. In these cases, the file holds design data, usually in XML or JSON format, and is known as the Home Design Exchange Format.

How to open HDX files

You need a suitable software like Huawei HDX Reader to open an HDX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your HDX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a HDX file directly in the browser:. The HDX extension is very commonly used. This HDX file itself is among the most popular common file types and is primarily used by a single program. But the following two file formats are common:

• 90% of all HDX files are based on the zip format, that is, an HDX file includes multiple compressed files. The number of files included is on average 177 and ranges from 65 to 210. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The average file size is 100 MB with most files being between 11 MB and 260 MB in size. • 3% of all HDX files are based on the well-known JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are on average 100 KB in size and range from 14 KB to 250 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. wallThick, "floorMaterial" : {, width, "rotation" : 0, "scale" : 1, "content" : "$Wood Floor Dark", "unit" : 0, height and "building" : {. Examples of file names are Design.hdx or New Design.hdx. Such files sometimes refer to floor, plan and casa.
