What is an HLX file?

HLX files mostly belong to HX Edit. HLX files are used in different fields with distinct internal formats.
For many users, the file is a preset file for Line 6 Helix devices. These files store guitar amplifier patches and effect settings in JSON format and are managed with HX Edit software.
Other uses include:

How can I open an HLX file?

You need a suitable software like HX Edit to open an HLX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. HLX file extension format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. The files are on average 16 KB in size and range from 5 KB to 37 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: "data" : {, "meta" : {, build_sha, device_version, appversion, modifieddate, "application" : "HX Edit" and "device" : 2162689.
