What is a HIT file?

HIT files mostly belong to Game client. HIT files are used by certain video games to store in‐game data. They contain detailed information that is not meant for a general-purpose viewer.
  • Heroes of the Storm replay file: This HIT file holds game replay data. It records in‐game actions, configurations, and events so players can review matches later. See more details on the Heroes of the Storm Wiki.
  • The Sims and Simpsons Hit & Run file: In these cases, the HIT file is used for audio or configuration data. It may store sound clips or game settings that the game reads during play. More information is available at The Sims site.
  • FilExt.com tips: These files use internal formats defined by their respective game engines. Use the in-game replay or settings tools to open and view them. Tip: Do not try to open HIT files with a text editor as they contain binary data.

    How to open HIT files

You need a suitable software like Game client to open a HIT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your HIT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a HIT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
