Opening an IRI File
The IRI file type is primarily associated with FLIR Tools.
What is an IRI file?
FilExt.com tip: Follow the device or manufacturer guidelines to ensure proper viewing and conversion.
How to open IRI files
You need a suitable software like FLIR Tools to open an IRI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IRI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IRI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert IRI files:
- FLIR Tools
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. IRI files are often referred to as FLIR Tools raster images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- IRT Cronista (Infrared Image) by GRAYESS Inc.
- Thermography Studio (Infrared Image) by GORATEC Technology GmbH & Co. KGThermography Studio is an infrared image analysis and reporting tool. This file format is classified as Graphic.
IRI file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the IRI files is as follows:
The IRI file extension is not common and predominantly uses a uniform format. The following file formats are most commonly found in IRI files:
- 75% of all IRI files start with the magic bytes IRI, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 39 KB in size and range from 28 KB to 39 KB. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. Some examples of file names are TI20180601.IRI.
- 15% of all IRI files are based on the well-known TIFF file format. TIFF is short for Tagged Image File Format. It stores raster graphics images that support color depths from 1 to 24-bit, lossy and lossless compression and multiple layers and pages. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 170 KB in size and range from 170 KB to 170 KB.
All other IRI files (10%) have different formats. Tagged as image. If you want to find out what your IRI file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for IRI File Extension
an iri raster image file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with IRI files
- Associate the IRI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open raster image files. Because only the current version supports the latest IRI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available FLIR Tools update.
- To make sure that your IRI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
