What is an LDP file?

LDP files mostly belong to Altium Designer. LDP files are not a single, standard format. They are used by different programs to store different kinds of data.
For example, one common use is by Altium Designer for PCB layouts. In this case the file is a PCB Layer Pairs Export File that contains drill and layer information used in printed circuit board manufacturing. To open this type, you must use Altium Designer.
Other uses include:

Layered digital photos: Some LDP files store JPEG image data that includes multiple layers. These files, linked with photo-editing tools like Photoshop, hold layered images and require an image editor that supports such features.

Video metadata: Certain LDP files include partial video data in an MP4 structure. They hold metadata or segments of a video and need appropriate video software for proper viewing.

How to open LDP files

You need a suitable software like Altium Designer to open an LDP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LDP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LDP file directly in the browser:. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. LDP is not a commonly used file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in LDP files:

30% of all LDP files are Altium Designer Layer Pairs export data files. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are 170 bytes to 340 bytes in size, with a median of 230 bytes. It is a modern file type. The keywords Export File, Layer Pairs, Layer Pairs Export File for PCB, LayersSetName, PcbDoc, DrillFile, Top_Bot_Thru_Holes, Users and DrillLayers are typical for these files. These files are often associated with board.
15% of all LDP files store the data in the JPG file format. JPEG is the standard image format for lossy and compressed image data. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 32 KB to 2 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as JFIF. The following filename is common: IMG_20180601.jpg.LDP or -91 77180 06404- 20180601.jpg.LDP.
