What is an LFM file?

LFM files mostly belong to Lazarus IDE. LFM files are not a single standard; they are used by different applications.

How can I open an LFM file?

You need a suitable software like Lazarus IDE to open an LFM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The LFM file extension is rather rarely used and includes many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all LFM files use ZIP compression, i.e. an LFM file contains several compressed files. A typical number of included files is 2. File names are e.g. details.txt and modeldata.lfm. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. Most of these files are 750 bytes to 8 MB in size. • 20% of all LFM files are associated with Lazarus Form. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. Most of these files are 1 KB to 40 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Height, Left, Top, Width, object, Caption, ClientHeight, ClientWidth and BorderStyle. Examples of file names are main.lfm or unit1.lfm.
