All about LPI Files
The LPI file type is primarily associated with Lazarus IDE.
What is an LPI file
- Lazarus IDE Project File: The file is an XML-based project file used by the Lazarus IDE. It stores project settings and build configurations. You can open it directly in the Lazarus IDE. For more details, visit Lazarus IDE.
- ARPlugin Package: In some cases the LPI file is a GZIP-compressed package. It serves as an ARPlugin package for systems like BMC Remedy AR System and is used with Trellix ESM content. Further information is available at this webpage.
- Print Info / Lazarus Project Information: Other LPI files use a .NET format. They store print settings or project-related information and are connected with Logic.NET.Win.Base and Laserfiche systems.
- LivePicture Image File: A different use of the LPI extension is as a LivePicture image file. This file holds live or dynamic image content and is meant to be opened with a compatible image viewer.
FilExt.com tips: Each LPI file is designed for a specific role. Use the correct software to open it based on its internal format. Understanding whether the file is XML, GZIP, .NET or a custom image type will guide you to the proper application.
How to open LPI files
You need a suitable software like Lazarus IDE to open an LPI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LPI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LPI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

LPI format details:
To find out what program is needed to open LPI files, you need to determine the file format. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our analysis of the LPI files produces the following result:
The LPI file extension is not found very often and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 30% of all LPI files save the data in GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The file size is in the range of 10 KB to 31 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The files contain the following words: ARPlugin. Examples of file names are SRP-Infoblox.lpi or SRP-Palo_Alto.lpi. Files like these are sometimes connected to arplugin, alto, palo, management, adaccount and infoblox.
- 25% of all LPI files are associated with Lazarus Project Information files, which internally utilize the well-known XML format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. LPI files can be up to 170 KB in size, but are often around 1 KB - 8 KB. The files contain the following words: <CONFIG>, <General>, <ProjectOptions>, <PathDelim Value="\"/>, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <Version Value="11"/>, <Flags>, <MainUnitHasCreateFormStatements Valu and <SessionStorage Value="InProjectDir"/>. The file name cheatengine.lpi or Project1.lpi is characteristic of these files.
The remaining 45% of all LPI files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, .NET and FITS. Sometimes used for photo. If you want to find out which format your LPI file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .lpi file to analyze".
Technical Data for LPI File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\KieSoft\123Backup\123BACKUP.EXE

EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\LivePix 2.0\LivePix.exe -D
an lpi Project file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with LPI files
- Associate the LPI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest LPI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Lazarus IDE update.
- To make sure that your LPI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .LPI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
