What is an LPS file?

LPS files mostly belong to Bryce by DAZ. The LPS file extension is mainly used to store 3D models of tree leaves created using Bryce Tree Lab, a cross-platform software for creating and rendering 3D models and animations of landscapes. The LPS 3D leaf model are made up of preset shapes, textures, lighting, and other 3D effects. LPS files that are shipped with a Bryce installation can be found in the /Presets/Leaves/ directory of the installation folder. These files can be imported and used in a 3D scene. The LPS filename extension is also used to store project session data generated by Lazarus, a multi-platform integrated development environment.

LPS files can originate from various programs and aren't universally openable.

1. Identify the Source: A 3D artist may send a Bryce 3D leaf model, while a software developer might share a Lazarus Project Session file.
2. Check the Header: Open the file in a text editor or hex viewer to inspect the first bytes:
   • <?xml indicates a Lazarus Project Session or structured data.
   • Binary characters often suggest a proprietary 3D model format.
3. Use the Original Software: You usually need the original program; try DAZ Bryce, Lazarus IDE, or ask the sender if uncertain.
