All about LS Files
The LS file type is primarily associated with LightWave 3D.
What is an LS file?
How to open an LS file
You need a suitable software like LightWave 3D to open an LS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

LS file format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the LS files:
Files with the LS extension are quite widely used. This file type includes various formats for various programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 40% of all LS files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "/PROG " at the beginning. These files contain text and words, not binary data. LS files are between 640 bytes and 7 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. /ATTR, DATE, TIME, COMMENT, CREATE, FILE_NAME, MODIFIED, OWNER, PROG_SIZE, = MNEDITOR;, VERSION and LINE. Files like these are about prog, pick, placedie, pickdie, prgpose, program, carre, clear, place, home, jjtp and tray.
- 15% of all LS files start with the bytes LSE02 crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 1 KB to 180 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: LSE02. suspects.ls or parking.ls is a typical file name. Such files are related to zones, and have often person-related content.
The remaining 45% of all LS files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, DOC, cbgggkc, ERR, Translator, LoopMachinebcR and title. Sometimes used for servers, pldata, load, content, server, data or down. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your LS file!

How to solve problems with LS files
- Associate the LS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open scripts. Because only the current version supports the latest LS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the NewTek manufacturer website after an available LightWave 3D update.
- To make sure that your LS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .LS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
