MHTML format details:
To view or edit MHTML files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the MHTML files produces the following result:
The MHTML file extension is used very often and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in MHTML files are:
- 95% of all MHTML files belong to MHTML archive. The files are using the common file format MHTML. MHTML is short for MIME encapsulation of aggregate HTML documents. It is a web page archive format which contains a complete webpage (text, code and images) in a single computer file. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. MHTML files are between 85 KB and 2 MB in size. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. From: <Saved by Blink>, Snapshot-Content-Location, Subject, https, Date and MIME. Files like these are sometimes connected to google, download, drive, woman, search, gmail, docx and mail.
- 2% of all MHTML files are MIME HTML archive format files, which are using the popular MIME file format. MIME is short for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. It is an Internet standard that extends the format of email messages to support Unicode and attachments. These files contain text and words, not binary data. MHTML files can be up to 1 MB in size, but are often around 4 KB - 450 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as boundary, Content-Type: multipart/related;, MIME-Version: 1.0, Document and NextPart.
All other MHTML files (3%) have no uniform format, frequently e.g. HTML. These files are often connected to network, online, photos, videos, view or xnxx. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your MHTML file!

an mhtml encapsulated web page is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

- Associate the MHTML file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open encapsulated web pages. Because only the current version supports the latest MHTML file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Edge update.
- To make sure that your MHTML file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
